English at work Day was an exciting opportunity to experience and learn about potential jobs for the future. There were lots of opportunities to meet with people who worked for universities, colleges and a range of different work places, but who all had one thing in common which was that they used English skills in their every day working lives.
On Tuesday 21st November, the English Department organised a unique opportunity to meet with a range of employers and employees to discuss how they use the English skills they acquired at school and in their further study, in their jobs and working life. Year 9 were able to meet with a range of different people from ten different workplaces; ask them questions, talk to them about the importance of English, complete written tasks, physical tasks or just discuss ideas.
Year 9 were really positive in their feedback following the event. We felt that it was interactive and a new way to learn. We also learnt how important English is to any of the future careers we may choose, the skills are covered in any job and so are really relevant to our futures.
