Careers Support and Events

Careers Support and Events

At The Priory School we have a wide range of events and support for students to ensure they are able to take the next steps with confidence.

Careers Support

Our dedicated Careers Advisor, Kim Weston, is a registered careers advisor from the independent Careers Development Institute (CDI). She is available in school every Thursday and provides 1:1 advice to all students, as well as drop in sessions and attending options and parents’ evenings to provide advice to parents/carers and students. If you wish to contact her directly for further information, please  email  kim.weston@pri.318education.co.uk and she will be happy to provide advice and support to parents/carers and students.

In addition, all students from Year 7 have access to Kudos online program. Kudos is the UK’s most popular impartial careers guidance and information program that helps young people plan their future and make informed decisions.

It provides students with a personalised experience which enables them to explore careers and learning pathways based on their interests and aspirations. Students can get ideas of careers that they might like, explore their own career ideas, discover where their favourite subjects could take them and uncover a world of opportunities in different areas of work. Careers Events

There is also a busy programme of events for students to develop their work and employability skills as well as learn about different careers and choices once they leave The Priory School. These range from Enterprise Challenges and STEM events to Thinking Ahead Careers Day, Apprenticeship Events, Student Finance talk by Harper Adams University, Post -16 Careers Fair and visits to careers fairs for example the Telford Apprenticeship, Employment and Skills Show. We also work closely with many other schools in the area to enhance our careers provision. For example, all Year 11 students are invited to Shrewsbury School HE Fair, Shrewsbury Girls High School Careers Fair and selected students attend Moreton Hall’s ‘Moreton Means Business’ event. In addition, there are many events within the community that we signpost students to. These include a range of events organised by Shrewsbury Colleges Group, Shrewsbury Girls High School, Concord College and Shrewsbury School often in specific professions e.g. law, medicine, sport as well as applying for top universities. To ensure we can target these opportunities effectively we survey all students at the start of Year 10 to ascertain their potential careers pathways and signpost specific events to them as well as parents / carers.
