As an 18 year old I signed a contract with Northamptonshire CCC, which was the start of a ten-year career in professional cricket. Moves to Warwickshire CCC and Glamorgan CCC followed, as did stints playing overseas in Australia, South Africa, and the West Indies, prior to retiring due to injury at 28 following operations on both knees. After retiring I took up a career in coaching, and am now an ECB Level 4 coach, and currently Cricket Professional at Shrewsbury School.
During my time at The Priory, I created a YouTube Channel and purchased equipment with money I raised through busking in town. This became my full-time job in 2015 and opened up countless opportunities along the way. My passion to entertain was partly discovered in Drama GCSE and in Maths I developed an understanding of exponential growth. Although I didn't pick a career path from education, education gave me the tools to create mine.
After leaving Priory I spent a few years studying and then working in Sweden before eventually studying Swedish at Hull University in 1994. I got married while at University and in 2000 we moved to Sweden with our three small children. I have mainly worked in IT with technical documentation and for the last three years, my wife and I have had our own consulting company. Sweden is a lovely place to live, but the winters can be brutal.
After finishing my time at The Priory School, I attended Shrewsbury Sixth Form College where I really enjoyed A Level Business Studies, Sociology and Physical Education. It was at Priory where I decided my real love for business, and I went onto study Business Management at University of Liverpool. Graduating is one of my proudest achievements so far. Since finishing University, I now enjoy working in a University setting in Marketing, Events and Business Development for a Students’ Union.
After finishing Priory I went to Shrewsbury college and completed a BTEC national diploma in engineering. I then did some part time work for Royal Mail. After this I started working at the Severn Valley Railway and am now in my 8th year there and am in my current role as a fitter/machinist repairing and maintaining the running fleet of steam locomotives. When not at work I’m usually somewhere near vintage tractors or road steam engines.
After secondary school, I went to Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and completed my A levels in Biology Chemistry and Maths, and was accepted into Leeds Dental School. After those 5 years, I completed my foundation dental training in Solihull, and the following year completed my Membership into the Royal College of Surgeons. I am now completing a Masters in Prosthodontics at Kings College London and have bought a dental practice in Wimbledon.
After Priory I went onto Shrewsbury Sixth Form College to study Business, Biology and Geography at A-level, and continuing the business theme, then went onto study Business Management at The University of Liverpool in 2013.Graduating in 2016, I joined Lidl UK on their Graduate Development Programme, where I occupied store and logistics manager positions. I have since left retail for the manufacturing sector, where I now work in sales and operations.
After Priory I went on to study at SSFC, and then to The University of Birmingham to study Mathematics. I gained insight into consultancy roles and worked for a research group affiliated with academia and the NHS during my degree. Currently I am a M.Sci student & Mathematics tutor. My research at the moment is focused around mathematically modelling microbots to be able to successfully transport cargo around the human body.
After finishing school, I went on to do Maths, English, Business and French at A-Level. I loved Business, so went to the University of Warwick to study International Management. I was lucky enough to spend a year in Denmark studying at Copenhagen Business School and working for Danish company. I developed a passion for Human Resources and after graduating, started my career as a HR Manager for P&G in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. 4 years on I’ve had 3 different roles with P&G across the UK.
I left The Priory School in 1965 and have had a variety of jobs, including working as a Clerk for Barclays Bank and an Administrator for Stafford Borough Council. My main hobby is badminton which I have played for over 40 years, and I still play now a couple of times a week. In 1999 I completed a Stable Management NVQ with Manchester University and went on to own my own pony (14’2 so not quite a horse). I enjoy reading, knitting, gardening and jigsaw puzzles.
After leaving Priory School I completed a BTEC in Administration and Business at Shrewsbury's College of Art and Technology. I studied for my A-levels at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College before being accepted at Sheffield University. I then completed a Masters, also in English, where I won the Emily Ellen Decent Prize for best poetry dissertation. I'm now a PhD student alongside my part-time job teaching undergraduates. In my free-time I volunteer at a local gallery specialising in book arts.
