Priory Reads

Priory Reads

The benefits of reading are widely reported - it is strongly linked to success and relaxes the body and calms the mind.  With this is mind a sponsored read is a great way to raise money for charity whilst strengthening the school reading culture.  Thank you to all so far who have supported Priory Reads and sponsored a student. We have now raised a record amount – just over £1350!

Just before the Christmas holiday, year 7 spent a week reading as much as possible either in their English lessons with blankets, pillows and snacks or around the library large screen log fire.  Their recommendations and review cards detailing what they enjoyed reading are now dotted around the library and English corridor.  7B won a supply of sweets and chocolates for the house book review competition by completing the best overall selection of reviews.  During Priory Reads we also had a free book swap (where students could get books ‘new to them’ to keep) and a special year 7 meeting of The Borrowers – the school library book group.

If there is still any outstanding sponsorship to be submitted please do so either online via ParentPay or cash/cheques (made payable to The Priory School) via the school shop post box.  Any payment brought into school should be in an envelope and include the sponsor form or full student details.  50% of the funds raised will go towards new school library books and the remaining 50% to the following charities:  Children With Cancer UK, Shrewsbury & Telford NHS Trust and the Hub 365 Foundation
