This Summer term a small team of students will be participating in The Bashes a devilishly hard literary school team quiz, held at Idsall School. Questions will relate to the current CILIP Carnegie book prize shortlist.
The CILIP Carnegie Medal is the UK's oldest and most prestigious children's book award, recognising outstanding writing in books for children and young people. It is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book written in English for children and young people. We always follow this award closely in the school library and all eight shortlisted books are now available to borrow. This year’s shortlist comprises books by authors offering multiple perspectives – from suffragette to slam poet, tribesman to basketball player – and settings as varied as the East End slums of 1920s London and a remote mountain village in the Philippines.
We are looking for students who love reading, are up for a challenge and are happy to try different genres of books. If anyone would like to join the team please see Mrs Edwards or Miss Donegan in the library or come along to The Borrowers book group which runs every Friday in the school library at 3pm.
The medal winner will be announced on the 18th June.
