Couch to 5K NHS (C25K)

Couch to 5K NHS (C25K)
posted 21 Sep 2018

As a school this year we are keen to ensure our students recognise how to become more resilient, one aspect of this is promoting the 9 week NHS couch to 5km (C25K) programme.  Students will find this a physical and mental challenge and we are looking forward to supporting them in pushing themselves to succeed. We thought as this is a national programme parents may want to be involved, we already have 50 students signed up.

Our plan is to complete the C25K programme with an aim to complete a Parkrun in the Quarry, Shrewsbury in November or Early December (date will be confirmed shortly).

The school will offer students a weekly running club on a Thursdays 3 – 4.15 pm.  If parents want to discuss in person and meet others who are getting involved, pop into the sports hall on Wednesday 26th September between 5.30 – 6.30 pm.

Students and parents will use the NHS couch to 5km app and work through independently, however we have students, staff and willing parents who have volunteered to be run mentors as an extra layer of support.

The C25K running plan is a great way to start running. Hopefully participants will quickly realise the mental and physical benefits of running and continue with the weekly Parkrun or a regular pattern of running upon completion.

Below are the links to the websites in relation to this programme - we would love to know if you are getting involved so we can support you as parents, so if you decide to accept the challenge can you please let Mrs Heath PE dept know via the info@tpstrust.co.uk email address.

We have suggested to the students we know are capable of already completing a 5km, to use the app to improve their running times by jogging the walks and running the runs!
