The Shrewsbury Secondary Schools District Sports Association (SSSDSA) ran a 15-a-side Rugby competition this year for the first time in over 30 years.
The competition was played in Years 8, 9 and 11, with all schools playing each other in “pool games” during the season, with the top 2 teams going forward to “The Grand Final” at Shrewsbury Rugby Club on 5 and 6 April.
Priory was the only school to have a team in every final.
The Year 11 final against Belvidere was a closely fought contest throughout, and Belvidere ran out as 17 – 12 winners.
The Year 9 final against Mary Webb was not quite as close, but the Priory boys gave an excellent performance, losing 50 – 35 to a team they had previously only scored against twice in 3 years.
The Year 8 final against Meole Brace was another close game, but an outstanding performance saw The Priory team emerge as 17 – 5 winners, and District Champions.
All three teams also competed in the Shropshire County Cup for the first time this year, and this experience played a significant part in their ongoing development. Well done to all who took part!
